How to start using CODE-DE-Lab site
This guide provides the main onboarding path from creating a CODE-DE-Lab account to accessing an approved service or cloud project. Each stage links to a dedicated article with the complete procedure.
Prerequisites
No. 1 Web browser and email access
Registration and account activation take place at https://tenant-manager.code-de.org. Follow Registration and Setting up an Account and use an email address that you can access throughout the process because account confirmation, verification, and application updates are sent to that address. Keep the mailbox available until verification is complete and the Dashboard opens.
No. 2 Authenticator application
Two-factor authentication is configured during the first sign-in. Install a TOTP-compatible mobile authenticator by following Two-Factor Authentication on the CODE-DE-Lab Site Using a Mobile Application, or prepare KeePassXC with Two-Factor Authentication to CODE-DE-Lab site using KeePassXC on desktop. Have the selected application ready when the QR code and secret appear.
No. 3 Organization route
Decide whether you will register a new organization or join an existing one by following Adding and editing an organization. Registering an organization requires its official address and any tax ID or VAT number needed for orders, contracts, or invoicing. Joining one requires an invitation code created by an administrator through Invite a new user to your organization; have the confirmed organization details or invitation code ready.
No. 4 Project and resource information
If you will request cloud resources, review Submitting Resource Applications on CODE-DE-Lab; for restricted archive data or a new PlanetScope acquisition, use How to apply for data sources on CODE-DE-Lab. Prepare a short project title, its objective, the required service or dataset, the intended start date and duration, the relevant contact details, and any required supporting files or exported resource configuration.
Choose your onboarding path
The steps you complete depend on your responsibility within the organization:
New organization administrator: Create and activate an account, register the organization, request the required allocation, and configure its project and billing assignment.
Invited organization member: Create and activate an account, join with an invitation code, wait for approval, and use the services and projects assigned by an administrator.
Restricted-data applicant: Create and activate an account, establish organization membership, submit a data application, and follow the resulting ticket until the request is resolved.
Complete the onboarding workflow
The usual sequence is account and 2FA → organization → role → application → approval and provisioning → service or project access.
1. Create and activate your account
Follow Registration and Setting up an Account to register, configure two-factor authentication, verify the email address, and open the Dashboard. A new personal account initially provides a limited set of options until you create or join an organization.
2. Create or join an organization
Use Adding and editing an organization to register an organization or submit its invitation code. Registering a new organization makes you its administrator; a request to join an existing organization remains pending until one of its administrators approves it.
Organization membership does not by itself provide a resource quota. An administrator must request the required allocation or assign access to resources that have already been provisioned.
3. Confirm your role and access
The admin, member+, and member roles provide different Dashboard and service permissions. Review Tenant Manager users and roles on CODE-DE-Lab before continuing:
admin users can manage the organization, users, billing, resource applications, Object Storage, and OpenStack access.
member+ users can access OpenStack and Object Storage without organization-management or billing permissions.
member users have basic Tenant Manager access but cannot use OpenStack or Object Storage Access.
OpenStack project membership and OpenStack project roles are managed separately from the Tenant Manager role.
4. Submit the required application
Choose the application that matches the intended work:
Organization administrators can request a Standard Package, Individual Package, Private S3 Bucket, JupyterLab Access, or Extended Download by following Submitting Resource Applications on CODE-DE-Lab.
To request access to restricted archive data or a new PlanetScope acquisition, follow How to apply for data sources on CODE-DE-Lab.
Submit separate applications when the requested packages or services require separate approval.
5. Follow approval and provisioning
Submitting a resource or data application creates a ticket. Monitor it in the Support section of the Dashboard, respond when additional information is requested, and wait until the ticket confirms that the allocation has been approved and provisioned or that access has been enabled.
6. Verify projects, billing, and active services
For an approved Standard Package or Individual Package, organization administrators can use Accounts and Projects Management on CODE-DE-Lab to confirm the project in FRA1-3 and review its wallet or contract assignment. The project must reach the ACTIVATED state before it is used in Horizon.
Open Services to review provisioned resources and confirm their project, product, billing mode, and wallet or contract assignment. Newly provisioned resources can take one to two hours to appear on the Active services page.
7. Start using the approved service
Continue according to the approved application:
For a Standard Package or Individual Package, open Horizon in FRA1-3 and select the activated OpenStack project. Access requires an admin or member+ Tenant Manager role together with membership in the relevant OpenStack project.
For a Private S3 Bucket, wait until Private Object Storage is ENABLED, then follow Private object storage access in CODE-DE-Lab to generate the access key and secret key for FRA1-3.
For JupyterLab Access or Extended Download, follow the provisioning instructions recorded in the application ticket.
For an approved data application, follow the access or acquisition instructions provided through its ticket.
What to do next
Organization administrators can invite colleagues with Invite a new user to your organization and assign the role appropriate to their work.
For command-line OpenStack access with a 2FA-enabled account, continue with How to Activate OpenStack CLI Access to CODE-DE-Lab Cloud Using Two-Factor Authentication.
If access, approval, or provisioning does not work as described, use Help desk and support to select the appropriate support channel.
